El protagonista es el ingeniero Balder, que, casado y con un hijo, establece un noviazgo con Irene, una adolescente. Hay otra historia secundaria, la de Zulema, amiga de Irene y mayor que ella, cuyo matrimonio con el mecánico Alberto no es feliz. El juguete rabioso es la más autobiográfica de sus novelas. Está dividida en cuatro partes que muestran a su protagonista Silvio Astier en diferentes situaciones en las que fracasa sistemáticamente. En el primer capítulo `Los ladrones`, Silvio forma un club con el objetivo de efectuar robos en el barrio, los intentos son frustrados y el club se disuelve. En el segundo, `Los trabajos y los días` el protagonista es dependiente de una librería pero luego de intentar un incendio, fracasa y debe huir. En el tercero, `El juguete rabioso` Astier ingresa en la Escuela de Aviación como aprendiz, pero lo expulsan. El capítulo culmina cuando intenta suicidarse y fracasa. En la parte final, llamadas `Judas Iscariote`, Silvio, ya mayor, entabla amistad con un rengo que es un cuidador de carros, muy humilde, en Flores. El Rengo le cuenta que quiere robar la casa del ingeniero Vitri. El protagonista lo delata y comenta que desea irse al sur. El resentimiento de sus repetidos fracasos lo impulsa a delatar a un hombre común, marginado como él. La única vez que no falla en sus intenciones, falla como ser humano, delatando al que lo consideraba su amigo y confidente. (Escuela Normal Superior de Chascomús 1997)
