Bohaterów znanych z tomu pierwszego Achai spotykamy na początku książki dokładnie w tym samym miejscu, w którym autor porzucił ich w poprzedniej części. Nie tyle warto dopatrywać się tu krytyki takiego pisarskiego posunięcia, co sugestii, że lekturę tej powieści najlepiej zacząć jednak od tomu pierwszego. W innym wypadku bowiem ominie nas przede wszystkim bardzo plastyczne i sugestywne przybliżenie rozmaitych krain tego świata miecza, magii i okrucieństwa, jaki spotykamy w Achai t.1, a który zaczyna w tym tomie powoli zbliżać się w stronę techniki, zapowiadając tym samym przemiany, jakim ulegnie zapewne w kolejnej części, jak i zadzierzgnięcie dwóch ciekawych wątków, które tutaj pojawiają się w zupełnie innych proporcjach. Achaja t.2 to głównie opowieść o pewnym etapie życia Achai, etapie związanym ze służbą w armii Arkach, tworzonej nota bene przez kobiety. Znawcom i miłośnikom militariów i taktyki wojennej kilkaset stron bitew, potyczek, pojedynków, strategii walk, codziennej służby i obyczajów żołnierskich zapewne mocno przypadnie do gustu. Wciągająca, wartka akcja, świetne dialogi i poczucie humoru autora pozwolą na szybkie i przyjemne przebrnięcie przez książkę także i tym, którzy nie odróżniają dzirytu od lancetu (a może to była lanca:-)). Niewątpliwie obok ciekawej fabuły, inteligentnych, dowcipnych i dynamizujących akcję dialogów, potrafiącego przykuć uwagę i wciągnąć świata przedstawionego czy intrygujących postaci zaletą książki jest także jej edycja. Powieść wydana jest bardzo ładnie i starannie. Mimo pokaźnej liczby stron brzegi okładki nie zaginają się podczas lektury. Po raz kolejny wydawca wypuścił na rynek dopracowaną edytorsko pozycję, której trudno pod tym względem cokolwiek zarzucić. Warto na koniec zatrzymać się na chwilę przy nieco abstrakcyjnym na pierwszy rzut oka pomyśle Andrzeja Ziemiańskiego stworzenia armii składającej się z młodych kobiet czy raczej nawet nastoletnich dziewczyn. Koncepcja wydaje się chybiona. Młode, często niewykształcone, średnio sprawne kobiety, biegające w krótkich, skórzanych spódniczkach bez majtek (tak, tak – ale pisarzowi nie zabrakło w tym pomyśle i autoironii, narrator czesto powtarza bowiem, że coś takiego mógł wymyśleć tylko mężczyzna), popijające tęgimi łykami wódkę i rzucające steki przekleństw mogą budzić kulturowe zdziwienie i sprzeciw czytelnika, zwłaszcza, że autor nie wykazał się wielką znajmością psychiki kobiet. I tu wypada przypomnieć, że Achaja to powieść fantastyczna, w niej wszystko jest możliwe, a światy oraz zachowania i obyczaje zamieszkujących je osób, będąc wyrazem nieskrępowanej wyobraźni autora, często przecież odbiegają od znanej nam rzeczywistości, nawet jeśli poruszone w utworze problemy w jakiś sposób ją przypominają
