Andromēdas Miglājs (1957, latv.1961) Туманность Андромеды Zinātniski fantastisks romāns par tālu nākotni, kad cilvēki dzīvo harmoniskā komunistiskā sabiedrībā. Visas planētas tautas sadzīvo vienotā saimē un dažādās Visuma malās mītošās civilizācijas sadarbojas kopējā «Lielajā Lokā» apmainoties ar kultūras un zinātnes sasniegumiem. Šī grandiozā utopija pavēra jaunus apvāršņus padomju fantastiskajā literatūrā. Pirmā grāmata triloģijā par Lielo Loku. Otrā «Čūskas sirds» (1959?) Сердце змеи Zinātniski fantastisks stāsts tematiski turpina «Andromēdas miglāja» norises — Zemes astronauti tālu kosmosā satiek citas civilizācijas pārstāvjus, kuru vielmaiņa balstās uz ftora, nevis uz skābekļa, kā zemiešiem. Trešā «Vērša stunda» (1969) Час Быка Zinātniski fantastisks romāns, kura darbība risinās uz tālas planētas Tormans (Mocības), kur valda nežēlīga oligarhiska tirānija. Dzīve tur lielā mērā atgādināja padomju reālijas. Romāns tika publicēts klajas izdevēju nevērības dēļ, par ko viņiem nācās dārgi samaksāt. Atklāti kritizēt romānu padomju vara neuzdrīkstējās — Jefremovs bija pārāk populārs, taču grāmata uz 20 gadiem tika noklusēta — to nepublicēja, izņēma no bibliotēkām un nepieminēja nekādos rakstniekam veltītos rakstos. Latviski protams netika iztulkota. Stāstos un romānos Jefremovs slavēja padomju cilvēku un “drīz gaidāmo” komunistisko nākotni, kad visiem uz Zemes klāsies jauki un saulaini, taču viņam pašam nebija ilūziju par to, kādā valstī un kādā laikā viņš dzīvo — īsi pirms Staļina nāves viņš apcietinājuma gaidās sadedzināja savas dienasgrāmatas un vēstules. Drīzumā pēc Jefemova nāves (1972.gada 5.oktobrī 65 gadu vecumā) VDK darbinieki izdarīja viņa dzīvoklī kratīšanu, meklējot “ideoloģiski kaitīgu literatūru”, un atņēma visus viņa melnrakstus. Uz diviem gadu desmitiem Jefremova vārds tika aizmirsts
